Academic Eligibility Checks The next grade check will be on February 12 at 4pm. These grade checks take place to promote academic success and to verify extracurricular eligibility. For the 2025-2026 school year, grade checks will take place during weeks 3, 6, and 9 of each quarter (on Fridays at 4:00pm). Students must pass at least 3 semester credits (6 classes) per semester to remain eligible. Career/technical classes meeting two periods count as 1 full credit. Students failing 2 or more classes, or who are behind pace in an online class (9+ assignments behind), will be declared ineligible for 1 week (Monday - Friday). Ineligible students, parents, and coaches will be notified via email by the AD before Monday. Rechecks occur the following Friday after 4:00pm. Students who receive a failing grade for the quarter or semester will be declared ineligible for 2 weeks. Fall semester ineligibility carries over to the spring semester. Spring semester ineligibility carries over to the fall semester. For more details on Eligibility Checks, see page 35-36 in the 2025-26 Student Handbook

10th - 12th graders: Prom 2026 registration will be starting in a couple weeks! You may have noticed in the 2025-26 handbook, that there are new eligibility requirement for Prom this year, and we wanted to share a reminder for that as we are getting closer to the event. New PROM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS are as follows: ATTENDANCE: Must be within the 10-day attendance policy to be eligible. ACADEMIC GRADES (both in-person and/or online courses): Grade checks will be based on grades at the end of Q3 (March 17). 1 failing class (below 65%) or 1 "off pace" class (8 or less assignments behind) means the student remains eligible; 2 or more failing classes or "off pace" classes means the student is ineligible to participate. Other Prom details that remain the same from past years are below: Prom 2026 Prom will be held on March 28 at 8pm in the HAC. This event is reserved for VCHS junior and senior students and their guests. Sophomore students may attend if they are invited by a VCHS junior or senior. No freshman students, nor persons who have reached 21 years of age, may attend Prom or Grand March. All students & their guests must pass a breathalyzer test prior to entering. Participation in Prom (including grand march) is also dependent on academic and attendance policy standing. SIGN-UP & COST --Prom Grand March Sign-up starts Monday, February 23 in the North Office. Cost is $10/person and MUST be paid when signing up (make checks out to VCHS). Class Officers will walk in Grand March first, followed by the rest of the students in sign-up order. Due to printing programs, etc., the FINAL deadline to sign-up is March 25th at 4pm. Students wanting to attend the dance only (no grand march) are also required to sign up and pay in the North Office. NON-VCHS GUESTS--Students bringing a non-VCHS guest to Prom will need to complete a guest form that can be found in Canvas or in the North Office. This form needs to be approved by Mr. Peterson and MUST be on file in the office by 4pm on March 25th. Guests not having this information on file will NOT be allowed to attend Prom. DETENTIONS: Must be served by March 27 at 4pm in order to attend Prom. We are excited from Prom season to be here soon! The Junior class has been busy planning for a great night!
Track & Field Meeting Grades 7-12: For those interested in participating this season, all athletes must have a physical and be registered before beginning practice. The start dates for grades 9-12 are February 23, and for grades 7-8, March 16. Grades 7-8, if registered, are welcome to practice with 9-12 before your season begins. Anyone interested in managing at any level or with questions about participating, see Mr. Bakalar.
A Blood Drive for Students, Teachers, Staff and Community Members will be held on Wednesday, February 18th from 8:30-2pm in the HAC Lobby. You must be 16 or older to donate. If you are 16, you will need parent permission. Permission slips & the link to sign up can be found in Canvas. If you have questions, contact kyla.fetsch@k12.nd.us.
2026 Special Olympics ND State Winter Games will be held in Valley City on Saturday & Sunday (February 25 & March 1). More than 250 Special Olympic athletes from across the state will compete in the 2-day event for the chance to win Gold in Unified Volleyball and Cornhole. All events are free & the public is encouraged to attend! Volunteers are needed in the following areas: -Facility Setup -Volleyball timers and scorekeepers -Cornhole support -Athlete meal distribution -Awards -Many other volunteer opportunities To sign up as a volunteer, use the QR code posted in the South Office window, or see Katie Sather.
The matinee for the next Play, "Enter the Body", will be held on Wednesday, February 25th from 9-11am. All 7-12 students who meet the eligibility requirements below are invited to attend! -Have a C's or higher in all classes -Have fewer than 2 major office referrals -Have permission from your P1, P2 and P3 teachers to be absent. It is expected that all students check in with their teacher to confirm they are approved to attend. They are also responsible for making plans to complete any work missed during their absence. A sign-up sheet will be available in the North Office starting Monday, February 9th. Students must sign up in advance. Students should report to their period 1 class until dismissed to the Theater. It's expected that the play will be over in time for students to return to the end of their period 3 class. The sign-up deadline is 4pm on Tuesday, February 24th.
If you ordered a Valentine Balloon from the Sky Hi-Liner Balloon store last week, remember to pick up your balloon on Wednesday or Thursday this week. Come early to get your choice of balloons! All proceeds will go back to restocking our school store. Thank you for supporting our Sky Hi-liner Balloons school-based enterprise! Pick times are: Wednesday (periods 1, 5, 6, & 7) or Thursday (periods 1, 5, & 6).
